The consumerism, culture, celebrities and money, the fall of the level of musical journalism and the new Pet Shop Boys album "Yes"

I am pleased to hear that. Let's talk about the latest album Pet Shop Boys "Yes". Nagraliście album with Brian Higgins of Xenoman producer groups. Are you surprised Brian, music veterans, anything at work in the studio?

(after long deliberation) Yes! Working with Brian is a bad school. He has a very strong view on certain things, which is a great feature. The most interesting is that Brian wanted to make our songs were ... less pop. For example, the album includes the song "Building A Wall" ... Chris [Lowe, rock band - note. AW] and I worried that it might be too experimental and twisted like the Pet Shop Boys. But we turned out the Brain, in short: "It's only your opinion" (laughs).

This is a surprise because it seemed to me that Brian Higgins is a 100% pop producer ...

He probably sees the pop in the same way as the Pet Shop Boys. Has a broad definition of this style of music.

Congratulates CD titles. It is brilliant in its simplicity and alluring ...

Thank you (laughs). Took the title from the fact that it seemed to us that the CD sounds as if it was titled "Yes". We wanted a very pop, title. This title is perfectly corresponded well with the graphics and sound of the album. It is also the answer to the question. The question is: "Pet Shop Boys" and "Yes". "Is it really them?". "Yes, these are the Pet Shop Boys" (laughs).

One of you specify the single from this album "Love, etc.." as "post-lifestyle anthem. It sounds interesting.

It was Chris. Very aptly put it. "Love etc.". This song targeted at consumerism. Wasted the last 20 years is to develop a culture of money and celebrities. And the worst is that consumerism and celeb  feed each other. "Love etc.". is meant to convey that life does not revolve around those two things. The song says that we need "more", but "more love". In a sense, this song is anthem. However, not entirely serious, because this track is a lot of humor and irony. For example, the words: "You do not have to be beautiful, but it helps." Because being beautiful really helps in life.

One of the guests on "Yes" is Johnny Marr. I am a big fan of The Smiths is why I would ask whether in the studio talked about the rumors about a reactivation of the band?

No, not talked about it. And even if, it still would not tell you anything (laughs). Kidding! Of course, that we have touched upon this subject. But unfortunately I can not reveal anything. No comment from my side. So much about this.

This talk about this year's Brit Awards. Pet Shop Boys received the award for outstanding contribution to music. I read in an interview with "Q" that wondered about the boycott of this event. It seems your label nervously asked you if you receive a prize.

We put a lot of work to prepare for the ceremony, so we did not think about Brit Awards. You know, not every artist has a chance to present 10-minute performance during the awards ceremony. Typically, you get 3 minutes of speech and the presentation of one song. It was a nod in our direction and we could not simply reject the invitation. Our 10-minute show was to present the entire history of the Pet Shop Boys, and we have a weakness for such large projects and challenges. Performed with us Brandon Flowers of The Killers and Lady Gaga. In addition, it was also unique that the award for outstanding contribution to music is usually going to rock bands. And to give it the Pet Shop Boys was a surprise. It's nice. Not answered this as prizes or awards, but rather as a sign of respect for the achievements of the Pet Shop Boys.

I once worked in the magazine "Smash Hits". Therefore, I have a question about today's media. What is your opinion on music journalism? Is going to the dogs, or rather keep the level? When I worked at "Smash Hits", the press did not deal with pop music so thoroughly. Nowadays, all major newspapers write about music stars. There are reviews, interviews, columns ... Here you see the biggest difference. Unfortunately, we now have a different culture media. Unless there is a serious musical newspaper, which as multipliers medium. It is strictly music newspaper. That of your magazine 'Q' can be so regarded, but is rather a branch magazine. And other media focused on scandals and unfortunately. Too bad.
